Many store-bought brands of nut butters contain excessive amounts of sodium and sugar; making your own allows you to control their levels. Also, having the flexibility to select your own blend of nuts is especially helpful for those needing peanut-free alternatives. If you opt to use peanuts in this recipe, we suggest a 1:3 peanut to other nut ratio, as these legumes contain more fat than most nut varieties and can overpower in flavour.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Makes scant 1 cup
1 cup mixed, unsalted, roasted nuts
(peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, cashews, almonds, etc.)
4 tsp liquid honey or agave nectar
2 tbsp water
1 ½ tbsp canola oil
In the bowl of a food processor, combine all ingredients and process on high speed until pureed. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 1 month.
